CREA and Highland Green to Host Third Annual Fall Foliage Hike

Day’s Event Included a Guided Interpretive Hike and Flora Identification Challenge

September 27, 2004

The Cathance River Education Alliance (CREA) and Highland Green Adult Resort Community and Golf Club are hosting the Third Annual Foliage Hike on Saturday, October 16 at 2:00 p.m.

The day’s events include an interpretive guided hike and a flora “hunt” and identification challenge. Prizes will be awarded to participants. Refreshments will be served on the trail and a reception in the golf clubhouse will follow the hike.

CREA is a non-profit environmental education organization whose mission includes developing hiking trails within the Cathance River Preserve and encouraging and enhancing environmental education for local school children. Several years of work by CREA volunteers recently culminated in the public grand opening of the hiking trails. The trails wind their way through the 230-acre conservation area, along the Cathance River, through sections of old-growth forest and around a heath and series of vernal pools and spring-fed quarries.

The Foliage Hike is free and open to the public. RSVP is requested by calling 1-866-854-1200 or (207) 725-4549. Hikers should meet at the Highland Green golf clubhouse at 2:00 p.m. and dress appropriately for a hike.
